Robert Hall's goal in the 80th minute led the Lyon College Scots to a 2-1 triumph over the Martin Methodist RedHawks on Saturday afternoon in a TranSouth Conference road match.
Hall knocked in the unassisted game-winner at the 80:50 mark and gave the Scots (5-3-1, 1-1) their second straight victory over the RedHawks. The goal was Hall's fourth of the season and his second game-winning goal of the year.
Martin Methodist (3-2-2, 1-2) was receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll but has lost two of its last three matches.
The Scots led 1-0 when Faris Mekias found Bill Jefferies for a goal in the 39th minute, but fell into a 1-1 tie with MMC on a Gary Humphries goal in the 42nd minute.
Lyon is idle until an Oct. 3rd, TranSouth Conference road meeting with Cumberland University. Kickoff for that game is set for 2 p.m. in Lebanon, Tenn.
Martin Methodist 1, Women 0
Mor Efraim scored the No. 5 Martin Methodist RedHawks' only goal in a narrow 1-0 win over the Lyon College Scots on Saturday afternoon in a TranSouth Conference road match.
Lyon (5-3, 1-1), who has been receiving votes in this week's NAIA Top 25, hasn't won against Martin Methodist since joining the TranSouth Conference. However, Saturday's loss marked the second time the Scots have played the perennial national powerhouse to a slim 1-0 margin in the past three seasons. Martin Methodist (4-2-2, 2-0) has not lost in its last three games and shut out its opponent each time.
Efraim kicked in the unassisted game winner in the 35th minute and the score held up, thanks to the tenacity of both defenses.
Scots senior keeper Erica Cox played all 90 minutes in goal and had three saves against one goal allowed.
Lyon hits the road pitch again on Oct. 3rd, for a meeting with TranSouth foe Cumberland. Kickoff is set for Noon in Lebanon, Tenn.
