Jonesboro (ASU) – The Arkansas State women's basketball team welcomed fans, participants and local vendors to a post-race party Thursday evening to wrap up the ninth annual "Boyer Mile" preseason conditioning program.
The "Boyer Mile" was held on Thursday nights during the month of September. While the team ran a timed mile each week, fans were able to join in the fitness promotion by walking or running the mile with the Red Wolves.
"We were once again thrilled with the turnout from the community each week," said ASU head coach Brian Boyer. "Their participation and encouragement means so much to our players as they go through their conditioning program leading up to the season. We are very thankful for the support that they provide and look forward to seeing them during the upcoming season. Hopefully our team has helped motivate the community to either commit or recommit to a healthier lifestyle through exercise."
Food for the post-race party was provided by Triple-E Catering, while Gearhead Outfitters, Curves for Women and Slim Chicken's provided door prizes. Music was provided by PF Flyers.
Arkansas State's season will get underway Nov. 12 at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Tipoff, and the home opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff is scheduled for Nov. 15.
The Red Wolves return four starters and nine letterwinners for the upcoming season, including two of the three top scorers from the 2009-10 season.
