Jonesboro (ASU) – The volleyball Red Wolves (7-8, 1-2) posted their first Sun Belt Conference victory of the season over Troy (8-11, 1-2) on the road Friday night.
"Tonight, our players were ready to compete," said ASU head coach Justin Ingram. "We defended Troy at a high level during the first two sets, and our middles (Kelsie Hodges and Ashley Tipps) were coming up with key points. Although we had a momentum shift in the third and some of the fourth set, Jasmine Terry was outstanding on the offensive side of the ball, scoring four of the last six points of the match. We needed her to produce, and she came through big."
Arkansas State won the first two sets, both by a score of 25-23. Troy bounced back to take set three 25-21, but the Red Wolves sealed the win with a 25-22 set five victory.
Terry led the A-State squad with a season-high 18 kills, while Tipps added 13 and Hodges put in 10. Freshman Megan Baska led the team with 25 digs, and three other Red Wolves posted double-digit digs as well. Tipps also chalked up a team-high seven blocks.
The Red Wolves will be back in SBC action Sunday when they travel to Mobile, Ala. for a 1:00 p.m. matchup with South Alabama.
