Williamson leading ASU Men’s Golf at Squire Creek Invitational

CHOUDRANT, La. (ASU) – Cory Williamson finished the Squire Creek Invitational's opening day of play Monday in 15th place, leading the Arkansas State men's golf team through the tournament's first two rounds at the Squire Creek Country Club with a score of 147.

While Williamson shot a second-round 77, he carded a first-round 70 that was the lowest score of the day among A-State's competing golfers. He finished the day 3-over par and just one stroke shy of joining the top-10 individual leaders.

The Red Wolves are in 10th place among 12 teams after shooting a combined 609. ASU completed the first round with a 308 before cutting seven strokes off that total in the second round with a 301. A-State is only one stroke behind eighth-place Rice and McNeese State and leads 11th-place Troy by four strokes.

Chris Pledger and Lloyd du Preez both shot a 1-over par 73 to post ASU's lowest score of the second round. Pledger, ASU's top finisher in its first two tournaments, is currently tied for 31st place with a 152, and du Preez is tied for 41st place with a 154.

Also competing for ASU, Chance Holden is tied for 54th place with a combined 160 and Warren Hood tied for 57th with a 161.

Southeastern Louisiana is in first place with a 581, while Jacksonville State and host-school Louisiana Tech are tied for second with a 584. The tournament's third and final round will be played Tuesday.
