ASU Women’s Golf in eighth place at ORU Shootout

TULSA, Okla. (ASU) – The Arkansas State women's golf team shot a combined 638 for the first two rounds of play at the Oral Roberts University Shootout on Monday, finishing the tournament's opening day at the Meadowbrook Golf Course in eighth place among 17 teams.

The Red Wolves posted an opening-round 320 before cutting two strokes off that total in the second round to end the day just eight strokes behind sixth-place Lamar and Northern Iowa. A-State currently holds a four-stroke advantage over ninth-place UMKC.

Jennifer Welch and Anna Carling both shot a combined 158 to lead ASU and are tied for 29th place. Welch carded an 81 and 77 for the first two rounds, respectively, while Carling followed up her opening-round 80 with a 78 for the next 18 holes. Welch's second-round 77 was the lowest of the day among ASU's competing golfers.

Following Welch and Carling for ASU, Jennifer Loiacano and Courtney Manning are tied for 38th place with a combined 161. Aly Seng is currently tied for 70th place with a 170 and Anna Flanrey, competing as an individual, is tied for 86th place with a 181.

Tulsa shot a combined 602 with a low round of 295 to lead the field. Sam Houston State is currently in second place with a 612 and UTEP rounded out the day's top three finishers with a 614.

The third and final round of the ORU Shootout will be played Tuesday.
