Flu shots offered to Region 8 students

LITTLE ROCK, AR (KAIT) – School districts across the state are offering the seasonal flu shot to students.

Beginning mid-October, school will have flu shots available, and school clinics will be going on for the next several months. While the vaccinations are not required, they are highly recommended by the Arkansas Department of Health.

The Arkansas Department of Health says prior to the clinics, students will bring home consent forms as well as a fact sheet about the shot; they will not be able receive the shot without a returned form with parental signed permission.

If you have insurance, the insurance company will be asked to cover the cost. If you do not have insurance, or your insurance company refuses to pay, you will not be charged for the shot.

The health department also says this year the vaccines do include protection from the H1N1 virus in the same dose, so getting a second shot will not be necessary.
