BRINKLEY (AGFC) - Cache River National Wildlife Refuge is accepting applications for the Youth Only Waterfowl Hunt. In 2009, the refuge acquired 1,180 acres along Bayou DeView in Woodruff County and designated this area as a special youth-only waterfowl hunt area.
Hunters, age 15 and younger, may apply for permits to occupy one of five designated blinds. Hunters with permits will be allowed to hunt waterfowl on drawn weekend dates of the regular duck season.
Permitted hunters also will be allowed to invite one youth (age 15 or younger) as a guest to participate in the hunt. At least one adult, at least 21 years old, must supervise youth hunters. The adult will not be allowed to hunt. Volunteer mentors will be available (with advance notice) to supervise any youth that may need assistance to participate in the hunt.
Permits will be selected by random drawing. To apply, submit a 3x5 index card with the full name (first, middle, last), mailing address and telephone number of the youth hunter. The drawing will take place Oct. 18. Be sure the entry is mailed early so it is received before Oct. 15. Duplicate, unclear or incomplete entries will not be accepted.
Mail permit applications to:
Cache River NWR
26320 Highway 33 S.
Augusta, AR 72006
Drawn hunters will be placed in the first available weekend date as drawn. Hunters selected will be notified by mail and provided a blind permit at no charge, with a full list of refuge regulations and a map identifying the hunt area. Blind permits are non-transferable and valid only for the youth whose name appears on the permit and his or her guest.
