LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The state parole board has unanimously denied condemned killer Riley Dobi Noel's application for a clemency recommendation.
The board says it will send a recommendation to Governor Huckabee that Noel be turned down in his attempt to spare his life.
At a hearing yesterday at the Tucker Maximum Security Unit, lawyers for Noel argued that the scheduled July ninth execution should not go forward.
Noel was convicted of the execution-style 1995 slayings of three children in southwest Little Rock. Noel's lawyers argued yesterday that the mother of the children does not want him to be executed.
The board's recommendation goes to the governor today. It was Huckabee who set the execution date.
