Monroe, LA (ASU) — The Arkansas State women's tennis team competed at the Warhawk Invitational Friday and Saturday in Monroe, La., picking up a singles flight win and making the finals of a doubles flight.
Tina Ojdanic won flight four of singles play. She had a first-round bye, but topped Alcorn State's Sandoval 7-6, 6-3 and ULM's Shepherd 7-5, 6-2.
In other singles action, ASU newcomer Janie Nowland advanced through flight one to play for the third place title. She fell to Northwestern State's Bazhanova 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. A-State senior Jenny Herring also advanced in flight two, taking third place with a 6-3, 6-1 win over NSU's Schultz. Menna Kamal made it to the finals of flight three before falling to ULM's Burjaili 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.
Biljana Miloshevska fell in the first round of flight two but won the consolation bracket with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over NSU's Jan. Ceara Howey also dropped her first round match in flight three but bounced back to take the consolation side with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Alcorn's Rud.
In doubles play, Herring and Howey advanced to the third-place deciding match of flight one, but Nowland and Miloshevska also advanced to the match so it was not played. Kamal and Ojdanic advanced to the final match of flight two but were defeated by Alcorn's Rud and Rutherford.
Arkansas State will return to action Oct. 21-25 when it travels to Fayetteville, Ark. for the Regional tournament.
