Monroe, LA (ASU) – The Arkansas State women's soccer team snapped a seven-game losing streak with a win in Sun Belt Conference action, 2-1, at Louisiana-Monroe Sunday afternoon.
The win pushes ASU to 5-8-1 with a 1-5 record in league play while ULM falls to 2-12-1 with a 0-6 record in conference action.
"We won by the grace of God today," said ASU head coach Tafadzwa Ziyenge. "We overcame a well organized group and are very thankful for the win."
ULM took an early 1-0 lead when Tiffany Bombard scored on a penalty kick in the 11th minute (10:04).
Kara Nitti balanced the scoreboard for the Red Wolves when she took a feed from Ashley Jackson in the 34th minute (33:09). Nitti one-timed Jackson's cross from the left side 15 yards out from the net scoring the equalizer.
Michele Clark picked up her third game-winner and sixth goal of the season when she scored unassisted in the 69th minute (68:47) from just outside the top of the box.
ASU outshot ULM 17-11 taking eight shots on goal. Goalkeeper Megan Stoltzfus made three saves in goal for the Red Wolves facing four shots, playing the complete game win.
Ashley McMurtry led the squad with three shots, two of which were on goal. Bombard and Amy Porch each had three shots for ULM.
Arkansas State will host South Alabama at the ASU Soccer Complex on Friday. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. in Jonesboro.
