Wildfire in central Ark. leads to evacuations

TRASKWOOD, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Forestry Commission says a wildfire burning near Traskwood in Saline County has forced the evacuation of homes in the town. Commission spokeswoman Christina Fowler said evacuations were ordered Sunday afternoon when winds began pushing flames toward the town of about 550.

She said the fire began about 9:45 a.m. Sunday south of the town of about 35 miles southwest of Little Rock. The cause was not known. The American Red Cross said in a news release that it had established an emergency shelter at Harmony Grove High School in Haskell - about five miles northeast of Traskwood.

Fowler said no injuries were reported - but did not know how many people were affected or how many homes were evacuated.
