Arkansas safety Tramain Thomas named SEC Defensive Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia, Arkansas safety Tramain Thomas and Auburn placekicker Wes Byrum are the Southeastern Conference players of the week.

Garcia completed 17 of 20 passes for 201 yards with three touchdowns and an interception in the Gamecocks' win over then-No. 1 Alabama.

Thomas recovered two fumbles and had an interception in the end zone as time expired in Arkansas' 24-17 win over Texas A&M.

Byrum's 24-yard field goal on the final play lifted Auburn to a 37-34 win at Kentucky. He also made kicks from 38 and 19 yards.

Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray was named freshman of the week. Mississippi State tackle Derek Sherrod is offensive lineman of the week, while LSU's Drake Nevis took defensive line honors.
