Jonesboro (ASU) – Led by five players currently among the top-10 individual leaders, the Arkansas State women's golf team shot a combined 602 Monday at the Sage Meadows Country Club to complete the first two rounds of play at the Lady Red Wolf Classic in first place.
Competing in their fourth tournament of the year, the Red Wolves turned in one of their strongest performances of the young season. ASU shot a first-round 298, its second lowest score of the season, before coming back to post its next best round this year with a 304.
A-State ended the tournament's first day with a nine-stroke lead over Murray State and a 22-stroke advantage over third-place South Alabama. ASUwill enter tomorrow's third and final round looking not only to claim its second tournament championship this year, but also repeat as the Lady Red Wolf Classic champions.
Jennifer Welch shot a combined 146, which included a second-round 71 that was the lowest score of her career, to end the day in a tie for first place with Murray State's Alexandra Lennartsson.
Anna Carling carded the tournament's lowest individual round with a career-best 69 for the first 18 holes, but dropped from first to third place after posting a second-round 78. Carling posted a combined 147, leaving her only one stroke behind the leaders.
Aly Seng shot a combined 155, including a season-best 77, to finish the day in seventh place, while Jennifer Loiacano and Courtney Manning are also among the top-10 leaders after both shot a combined 156 that placed them tied for eighth.
Additionally, the Red Wolves have four golfers competing as individuals in Anna Flanrey, Alyssa Goodin, Clara Tefteller and Claire Woosley. Flanrey is currently tied for 21st place with a 165, while Goodin is 24th with a 168, Tefteller 25th with a 170 and Woosley 33rd with a 183.
