Pooler, GA (ASU) – The Arkansas State men's golf team shot a final-round 297 Tuesday at the Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate, finishing the two-day tournament played at the Savannah Quarters Country Club in ninth place among 14 teams with a combined 876.
The Red Wolves were tied for seventh place after posting an opening-round 295 Monday, but ended the day in sixth place after recording a 284 that was their second lowest round this season. A-State was led by two players completing the tournament among the top-20 individual leaders, including Lloyd du Preez with a season-best ninth-place finish.
du Preez shot a combined 213, including a 3-under par 69, for his best three-round score of the season. Chris Pledger shot a 215 to follow du Preez in a tie for 14th place, marking his third top-15 finish of the season.
Also competing for ASU, Cory Williamson and and Wessel Zwiegers both shot a 224 to finish tied for 44th place. Matt Howton, competing in his first tournament of the season, finished tied for 74th place with a 234.
Four ASU golfers recorded a score under par in at least one round, including du Preez and Pledger with a combined total under par for all 54 holes.
Florida Gulf Coast won the tournament title with an 844, while Wofford College shot an 861 to finish second and Wintrhop posted an 865 to take third place. The Red Wolves return to action Oct. 25-26 at the Memphis Tiger Intercollegiate.
