Region 8 police order toxicology tests in death of 6-month-old

DEXTER MO (KAIT) – Police in Stoddard County said it may be weeks before they know the cause of death of a 6-month-old baby.

According to the Dexter Police Department, they've also requested toxicology results as well as an autopsy in the infant's death. Police say it could take up to six weeks before those results come in.

Police say on Tuesday emergency crews responded to a home on the north side of Dexter around 3pm.

When crews arrived they found an infant who was unresponsive. Dexter Lt. Trevor Pulley said the baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Stoddard County Major Case Squad was activated and is now investigating the death. An autopsy was schedule, and police declined to speculate on a cause of death or if anyone was a potential suspect in the baby's death.
