Cleveland, MS (Lyon) - The Lyon College Scots notched their sixth shutout of the season in a 3-0 triumph over Delta State on Wednesday in nonconference play.
Lyon (8-3) is on a three-match winning streak, has won five of its last six and has recorded two straight via shutout. Delta State (3-10-1) has lost two in a row and hasn't won since Sept. 18th against Freed-Hardeman.
Thanks to a smothering midfield and backfield defense, Scots' senior goalkeeper Erica Cox only had to turn away one shot on goal to notch her sixth shutout of the year and the 16th shutout of her career.
Katy Smith kicked off the scoring for Lyon with an unassisted goal in the 33rd minute then assisted on Anja Klotzle's team-leading 10th goal of the season in the 81st minute. Klotzle has now scored goals in five of her last six contests and has at least one goal in her last three matches.
Lyon's Amber Mathieson then capped the scoring for Lyon in the 83rd minute with a goal off of an assist from Norma Sanchez.
The Scots are idle until a TranSouth Conference road match with Freed-Hardeman on Tuesday, Oct. 19th in Henderson, Tenn.
