Freshman Martel Reid-Warren sets Lyon single season goal-scoring record

Cleveland, MS (Lyon) - Lyon College Scots' forward Martel Reid-Warden became the school's single-season, goal-scoring king with what would turn out to be the game-winning goal in Lyon College's 2-1 victory over Delta State Wednesday in nonconference action.

Reid-Warden booted his 10th goal of the season in the 84th minute of Wednesday's contest, giving Lyon a 2-0 advantage at the time and thus, replacing the former season-record holder Tyler Northrip in the annals of Scots' soccer history. The freshman forward has scored a goal in each of his last three games and has scored 12 points in that trio of games.

The Scots (8-3-1) are on quite a tear and have been winners of four straight matches. Delta State (4-9) has lost five of its last seven.

Robert Hall scored his sixth goal of the season in the 83rd minute to give the Scots a 1-0 advantage in the second half. Hall's sixth goal was a career high for the midfielder from Hull, England.

Lyon now has 31 goals as a team, which is just one goal short of tying the school's team record held by two different Lyon squads (2005 and again in '08).

Matt Kelly played all 90 minutes in goal, saved two shots and allowed one kick to touch the back of the net.

Lyon plays again on Oct. 19th against TranSouth opponent Freed-Hardeman University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Henderson, Tenn.
