SEARCY, Ark. (HU) – The Harding University men's basketball squad was selected fourth in the eight-team Gulf South Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll on Friday. The top four teams in the highly-competitive West Division advance to the conference tournament in March.
Harding senior forward Kevin Brown was one of five players selected to the 2010 GSC Preseason Men's Basketball Team. A 2nd Team All-GSC selection last year, Brown averaged 13.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.
Arkansas Tech, the two-time defending GSC champion, is the preseason favorite in the West Division. The Wonder Boys received five of the eight first-place votes and finished with 47 points in the poll. Delta State (38), Christian Brothers (36) and Harding (34) were separated by only four points in the next three slots.
Harding received one first-place vote, two second- and third-place votes, one fourth-place vote and one fifth-place vote.
Alabama-Huntsville was the unanimous selection as the favorite in the East Division and had a conference-high six votes as the potential GSC Tournament champion.
Other members of the Preseason All-GSC Team were Laithe Massey of Arkansas Tech, Scott Dennis and Zach Warner of Christian Brothers, and Marqueys Brown of Delta State.
Weston Jameson, a redshirt freshman guard from Edgewood, Texas, and Lance Cannon, a sophomore forward and transfer from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, were Harding players listed among the conference's top newcomers.
