INDEPENDENCE CO, AR (KAIT) – Police in one Region 8 county are looking for who put an explosive device on a bridge in Independence County.
According to the Independence County Sheriff's Department, deputies were called to the Dota Creek Bridge on Galloway Road Saturday morning after a report of a suspicious device that was left on the bridge.
Police say when they arrived they observed what appeared to be an improvised explosive device sitting in the middle of the bridge. The area was secured and then deputies called in the Arkansas State Police Bomb Squad who detonated the device.
After further investigation it was determined it was an actual explosive. Several pieces of evidence were collected and a person of interest has been developed.
The Independence County Sheriff's Department, Arkansas State Police, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
