JPD participating in Selective Traffic Enforcement Program

JONESOBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Jonesboro Police Department is once again participating in the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP).

The program is possible through a grant from the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration and the Arkansas Highway Safety Office totaling $72,000.

The grant will help pay overtime costs for JPD officers to enforce laws and cite people for traffic violations including seat belt usage, child restraint violations, speeding, and DWI/DUI enforcement.

The police department says more police officers will patrol the city and participate in law enforcement projects throughout the year. They say they will also purchase and loan child safety seats for children in need and work other organizations to have child safety seat clinics.
