JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - Craighead County authorities are issuing tickets to area farmers who are burning their fields while the county remains under a burn ban. County code enforcement officer George Johnson tells the Jonesboro Sun he's issued seven tickets and a dozen warnings this week.
Those receiving the tickets must appear in court. Johnson says he heard more than 40 complaints in one day about the burning fields. He says all the farmers should know by now that the county is under a burn ban.
Those convicted of burning during a burn ban could receive fines up to $1,000 and a jail sentence of up to one year.
