Statewide bus tour promotes adult education

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The wheels on the bus made their rounds Saturday in Craighead County, the Arkansas Adult Education bus. There is an Adult Education Center available in every county across Arkansas, but for the month of October and beginning of November members of Arkansas' Adult Education is promoting its services in a big way.

The Arkansas Adult Education tour bus rolled into Craighead County Saturday in a statewide effort to promote adult education.

"Just another advertisement for all the good stuff we do here at the Adult Education Center," says Steve Clayton, Director of the Valley View Adult Education Center. He says it's like a billboard on wheels. The tour is traveling through 20 cities, and hopes to reach individuals living in the more rural areas.

"We have pamphlets, brochures, information about adult education. It's a great need in Arkansas. We offer the GED, ACT prep for people wanting to go back to school, computer literacy, and like I said all of this is absolutely free," Clayton explains.

Free! A message the tour is hoping to spread. They're also providing an extra incentive, with a super bowl ticket giveaway. Making education available to anyone who wants to learn, which has already impacted Craighead County.

"Last school year we served 1,503 people that walked through our doors. So we have a large cliental, which is a great problem to have," says Clayton.

The bus also made a stop in Newport Saturday afternoon. The tour is half way through and ends on Nov 9th. Since the tour began, over 400 people have come through.
