Forest fire threatens homes near Highway 67

CORNING, AR (KAIT) – Three fire departments in Region 8 battle a fire on Saturday afternoon on into the night.

A Knobel Fire Department volunteer firefighter says the Knobel Fire Department was called into assist the Corning Fire Department around 3:00 p.m. to battle the blaze between Clay County Roads 150 and 147 near Highway 67. He also says the Success Fire Department was called in to help.

According to the firefighter, anywhere from 30 to 40 acres have been scorched by the fire so far. The fire threatened several homes in the area. "It got up to our Uncle Ray's house," says resident Samantha Ladd, "And, it was just flying above the trees!"

As of 9:00 p.m., the fire is not out, but is contained, and the cause of the fire is unknown.
