NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) –According to Newport Police officers, Christopher Bokamper, 25, of Memphis was arrested in connection with the stabbing of Demone Overland, 29, of Newport on Hout Circle.

Police say Overland suffered a single stab wound to the stomach and was later taken to a Little Rock Hospital for non-life threatening injuries on Sunday night. He described his attacker as a white male who said he was a circus worker from Memphis.

At the time of the incident, police say the Family Fun Circus was packing up near the Village Mall following a one-day show in the city. Officers went to the scene, subsequently arrested Bokamper, and recovered the alleged weapon used to stab Overland.

Officers state Bokamper told them he went to Hout Circle to buy drugs and started fighting with Overland. That's when they say Bokamper took out his knife, stabbed Overland, and ran away.

Bokamper is held at the Jackson County Detention Center awaiting arraignment for battery in the second degree on Monday afternoon and faces up to six years in prison and/or up to a $10,000 fine.
