Memphis (ASU) – Three Arkansas State players finished the Memphis Intercollegiate's opening day of action among the top-15 individual leaders, and the Red Wolves men's golf team completed the tournament's first two rounds Monday in a two-way tie for third place with a combined 593.
The Red Wolves ended the day tied with Memphis and just three strokes behind second-place South Alabama, while Akron leads the 15-team field with a 586. A-State, which shot a first-round 296 before coming back to post a 297 for the following 18 holes, is currently two strokes in front of Missouri and also ahead of teams such as Tulsa, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette, UALR, Iowa State, Southern Mississippi, Marshall, Wisconsin and Army.
Lloyd du Preez shot a combined one-over par 145 (72-73) and is currently tied for eighth place to lead A-State. Joining du Preez among the top-15 leaders were Chris Pledger and Cory Williamson, who both shot a 146 to end the day tied for 12th place. Also competing for the Red Wolves, Wessel Zwiegers is tied for 56th place with a 156 and Chance Holden tied for 68th place with a 159.
The two-day tournament will conclude tomorrow with the third and final round.
