Arkansas announces plans for football-only center

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - The University of Arkansas announced preliminary plans for a new, 80,000-square-foot football-operations center on Wednesday.

Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long said the facility will be built to the south of Razorback Stadium and will be connected to the Walker Training Center, on the site of the current football practice fields. It will house the team's locker room, meeting room, training room and equipment room as well as the coaches' offices. In addition, two new football practice fields will be built south of the Walker complex.

Long estimated the project could cost anywhere from $24 million to $35 million and that it would be paid for by private donations. He also said $12 million had already been raised, with $10 million coming from a challenge grant from Donald W. Reynolds Foundation.

Long said he hopes to begin construction within a year.
