Nolan Richardson visits West Memphis today

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (MSCC) - Hall of Fame coach Nolan Richardson will participate in a tip-off event for the Mid-South Community College Athletic Booster Club on Thursday, October 28. The event will be held at Southland Park Gaming and Racing, 6-8 p.m.

Richardson and MSCC men's basketball coach Andy Stoglin worked together at Arkansas and the University of Tulsa. Richardson's visit coincides with his induction into the Multi-Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame which will be Friday, Oct. 29, in Little Rock.

With the help of a 10-year, $250,000 donation from Southland Park Gaming and Racing, MSCC is fielding men's and women's basketball teams that will compete as members of the National Junior College Athletic Association. The women's team opens play on November 1, and the men's team opens on Nov. 5.

MSCC, which became a community college in 1992, has never participated in intercollegiate sports.

Richardson also will attend MSCC basketball practice at 3 p.m.  The practice facility is located at 6 Meadowbrook Lane, West Memphis, just off West Broadway Street (near the Meadowbrook Country Club which is between West Memphis High School and Mid-South Community College).
