ASU Bowling opens 2010-11 season with 5-0 record at Greater Ozark Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (10/29/10) — The Arkansas State women's bowling team opened the 2010-11 season with an undefeated 5-0 record in its first day of baker competition at the Greater Ozark Invitational in Springfield, Mo.

The Red Wolves topped Southern in their first match 887-882, before defeating Sam Houston State 876-864.  ASU met tournament-host Central Missouri in the third match, winning 959-948.  Arkansas State closed the day with victories over Valparaiso (1008-903) and Prairie View A&M (941-880).

"We started out flat," said ASU head coach Justin Kostick.  "But we stepped up when we needed to and in some clutch situations.  After rolling just one ball last season, Lauren Pulver started and bowled amazing today.  The team started clicking in the last three matches and bowled much better.  I think it was just the first-tournament jitters at first, but all-in-all a good day.  I hope we can have another undefeated day again tomorrow."

Play will continue Saturday and Sunday in Springfield.
