ASU Soccer loses to UALR in season-finale

JONESBORO, Ark. (10/28/10) – Although the Arkansas State soccer team took a late lead with just 15 minutes of action they were unable to hold off the late UALR rally and ultimately dropped their final contest of the season, 2-1 in double overtime to the Trojans in Sun Belt Soccer action on Friday.

The Red Wolves and Trojans both ended their season Friday night. ASU finished with a 7-11-1 record with a 3-8 record in league play while UALR wrapped up action with a 7-12-1 mark and a 3-7-1 conference record.

"We played really hard we just couldn't find the back of the net today," said ASU head coach Tafadzwa Ziyenge.

Sophomore Ashley McMurtry tried to head in the ball in the 76th minute (75:54), but the ball fell to junior Kara Nitti who finished the goal and gave the Red Wolves a 1-0 advantage.

Taylor Gabbert scored the tying goal for the Trojans in the 87th minute (86:20). The match went to double-overtime before Adrianna Queen scored the winning goal for UALR at the 104:46 mark.

Nitti led the Red Wolves taking a season-high six shots in the contest four of which were on goal. As a team, ASU outshout UALR 17-12 but were outshot in the overtime periods 5-2.

Junior Megan Stoltzfus made five saves in goal for the Red Wolves playing the entire game. Junior midfielder Michele Clark was the only other A-State player to record multiple shots, recording three in the match.
