MO Park to open for deer hunt

KANSAS CITY, MO (AP) - Bow hunters will be able to take aim at deer in Kansas City's Swope Park this month.

The Missouri Department of Conservation says part of the 1,800-acre Swope Park will be included for the first time in the managed archery hunts for whitetail deer from Nov. 8 to Nov. 30.

The Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department has also coordinated managed deer hunts at four other parks.

Joe DeBold, an urban wildlife biologist for the conservation department, says the hunt is designed to reduce vehicle accidents involving deer and to protect native plants and trees in the parks.

He says 35 hunters were chosen in a random drawing for the Swope Park hunt.
