LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Conclusive lab results have confirmed that a Canadian business traveler who was hospitalized in Arkansas for a suspected case of the SARS virus did not have it.

The final lab results received June 27th from the federal Centers for Disease Control confirm that the man did not have SARS

Arkansas Health Department spokeswoman Jennifer O'Neal said samples from the patient tested negative for signs of the coronavirus believed to cause severe acute respiratory syndrome.

Citing new federal medical privacy laws, the health department refused to identify the man or even the region of the state in which he was hospitalized. The man was released and returned to Canada in early June.

The disease has killed hundreds of people, mostly in east Asia and the city of Toronto.
