Former MU player due in court on assault cases

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Former Missouri running back Derrick Washington was due in court Friday in the sexual assault and domestic violence cases that led to his preseason dismissal from the team.

The 1-time Tiger captain is accused of entering a former Missouri tutor's closed bedroom and sexually assaulting the sleeping woman while visiting her roommate in late June.

In August, Washington was charged with domestic assault after an ex-girlfriend said he hit her in the face several times and choked her during an argument.

Washington was kicked off the football team as Missouri prepared for its first game but was allowed to keep his scholarship in his senior year. His lawyer said Washington soon enrolled at another school.
