Ryan Mallett named semifinalist for Maxwell Award

Fayetteville (UofA) - University of Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett has been named one of 16 semifinalists for the 2010 Maxwell Award for the Collegiate Player of the Year as announced Monday by Maxwell Club Football Club President Ron Jaworski.

Mallett has completed 193-of-289 passes for 2,752 yards and 19 touchdowns. During his Razorback career, he has set or matched 34 different school or stadium records. His 305.8 passing yards per game lead the SEC and rank fourth in the NCAA, while his 23 completions of at least 30 yards lead the nation.

Mallett has thrown for at least 300 yards in seven games this season, breaking his single-season school record from 2009 and extending his Arkansas career record to 12. Included was a 409-yard performance vs. Vanderbilt that broke the school record of 408 he put up in 2009. The Vanderbilt showing was the fourth 400-yard game of his career. Before the Texarkana, Ark., native came to Arkansas, the school had never had a 400-yard passer in a single game.

The winner of the 74th Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec.9, 2010.  Three finalists will be announced on Nov. 22, 2010 and a second round of voting will take place at that time. The formal presentation will be made at the Maxwell Football Club's Awards Dinner on Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Harrah's Entertainment Complex in Atlantic City, N.J.
