Solomon Bozeman scored 17 points to lead three

Arkansas-Little Rock players in double figures Friday as the

Trojans turned a nine-point halftime deficit into a 57-47 victory

over SMU, which scored just 17 points in an ice-cold second half.

The Mustangs led 40-36 at the 11:03 mark of the second half

after a free throw by Mike Walker. They didn't score for more than

eight minutes until Rodney Clinkscales hit a 3-pointer at 3:02 to

draw within 48-43.

The Trojans (1-0) sealed the win at the free-throw line, hitting

9 of 10 while SMU (0-1) missed six of its final seven shots and

finished the game shooting just 27 percent (13 of 48).

Courtney Jackson and Eric Kibi each had 11 points for

Arkansas-Little Rock. Clinkscales was the only SMU player in double

figures while Papa Dia grabbed 12 rebounds to go with three blocks.

WKU 98, St. Joseph's 70

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Sergio Kerush - the Preseason Player of the

Year in the Sun Belt Conference - scored a game-high 31 points on

11 of 15 shooting to lead Western Kentucky past St. Joseph's 98-70

on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

Kerush also grabbed nine rebounds and shot 6 of 8 from

three-point range.

The Hilltoppers shot 51.4 percent in the first half as they

amassed a 48-38 halftime lead. Western Kentucky's hot shooting

continued in the second half as the Hilltoppers hit 21 of 29

attempts (72.4 percent) and outscored the Hawks 50-32.

Juan Pattillo and Steffphon Pettigrew each scored 17 points for

Western Kentucky and Pattillo had 12 rebounds to complete the


Carl Jones scored 17 points for St. Joseph's in the loss.

The loss snapped a five-game winning streak in season-opening

games for the Hawks.

Texas Tech 86, ULM 67

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Brad Reese collected 15 points and eight

rebounds as Texas Tech beat Louisiana-Monroe 86-67 on Friday night

in the season opener for both teams.

David Tairu added 13 points and Mike Singletary 10 for Texas

Tech. Eleven players scored for the Red Raiders, who shot 54.8

percent from the floor.

Kansas State transfer Fred Brown led Louisiana-Monroe with 25

points and made seven 3-pointers. Lawrence Gilbert added 18 points.

A 14-2 Texas Tech run spanning almost five minutes of the second

half took the air out of the Warhawks. Jaye Crockett put an

exclamation point on the Red Raiders victory with a right-handed

tomahawk dunk with 1:46 remaining.

It was the 11th consecutive opening-game win for Texas Tech.

FIU 89, Florida Memorial 73

MIAMI (AP) - DeJuan Wright scored 21 points and grabbed 14

rebounds as Florida International defeated Florida Memorial 89-73

on Friday night to open Isiah Thomas' second season as the

Panthers' coach.

Wright led four FIU players in double figures. Eric Frederick

added 16 points and nine rebounds, Marvin Roberts had 14 points and

Phil Gary had 12 points and four assists.

Antwan Baggs led Florida Memorial (0-1) with 14 points, seven

rebounds and four 3-pointers. Giorgio Gramegna added 13 points and

eight rebounds for the Lions.

FIU shot 54 percent on 34-of-63 shooting while Florida Memorial

shot 43.9 percent on 25-of-57 shooting. The Lions lost the ball 18

times to nine FIU turnovers.

FIU, which beat Florida Memorial by just six last season, opened

the second half on an 18-4 run. The Panthers' biggest lead was

79-43 when Martavis Kee nailed a 3-pointer with 8:54 remaining.
