Man in Mississippi County facing charges after two assaults

By Heartland News

EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) - A man is in jail accused of assaulting two people in East Prairie.

Prosecutor Darren Cann says they charged Robert Christian with one count of first degree assault.

Christian is charged with assaulting 26-year-old Ben Durfey. He was treated for fractures to his face and eye socket.

Christian used his fists as weapons, according to Mississippi Sheriff Keith Moore.

Christian was taken to the Mississippi County Jail on $200,000 cash only bond.

Christian is also accused of beating a 28-year-old woman at a home Saturday evening in East Prairie.

She's still in the hospital and her condition is much more serious. Sheriff Moore says charges are also pending for apparently choking the woman.

Her name isn't being released yet.

The sheriff says it looks like it all started over money.  Neighbors tell Heartland News they've heard fighting at the residence before.

This is still a developing story.  Stay with Heartland News for the very latest as authorities investigate.
