New Orleans (SBC) - Arkansas State's Cayla Fielder was named a Top Performer of the Week by Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com), the website announced Tuesday.
For the second consecutive week, a Sun Belt player has been recognized as a Top Performer of the Week. Five different players from the league have received the recognition this season. FIU's Natalia Valentin, Arkansas State's Fielder and Megan Baska, Middle Tennessee's Izabela Kozon twice, and Louisiana-Lafayette's Lindsay Brown all were named Top Performers of the Week in 2010. Kozon and Brown were also both named Player of the Week on two separate occasions by CVU.com this season.
Fielder is the reigning Sun Belt Player of the week this week. The junior middle blocker led the A-State squad to a 3-0 week in Sun Belt Conference action, taking wins over UALR, ULM and Louisiana-Lafayette. Fielder tied her career high of 22 kills for the third time this season in the Red Wolves' four-set win over UALR Tuesday and added another 30 on the weekend, totaling 52 for a 5.20 average last week. In ASU's three-set sweep over ULL, she hit for .500 and put up 17 kills. The Jonesboro, Ark., native also added 10 digs and six blocks this week, including four unassisted (two against each ULM and ULL). Fielder now owns a total of 326 kills on the year.
