Public Library helps residents on choosing the perfect pup

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - If you're thinking about adding a four-legged friend to your family during the holidays, make sure it's the right choice!

The Craighead County Public Library held a free lecture Tuesday night on choosing the best dog for you.

Dog trainer, Kevin Cooper talked about the questions you should be asking before purchasing a dog to make sure it's not a spur-of-the-moment purchase.

"A lot of times they'll just pick a dog based on, "Oh, I like the way that one looks," and they don't do any research on what it was bred to do, what kind of energy level it has and then what you'll usually end up getting is if you have a sedate person who goes out and buys a border collie that wants to go out all day," Cooper said.

Cooper says to make sure the dog you pick matches you.

The lecture began at 7 p.m. and was open to the public.
