MARKED TREE, AR (KAIT) – The city of Marked Tree has been awarded a $600,000 grant to support industrial developments within the city. The U.S. Commerce Department's Economic Development Administration (EDA) says the money will go toward a rail spur at the former Airtex industrial site.
Benefiting from the project is Awesome Products, a cleaning supplies company that manufactures its own brand of products, by helping distribute household bleach made in Marked Tree through its plant in West Memphis. Awesome Products will also be able to commence distribution directly and be allowed to install an injection molded plastics line which will make bottle and caps for the product.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development John Fernandez says the investment would create other new jobs and "keep rural Arkansas companies competitive." He also says the rail spur would connect local businesses and industries to a broader global market place.
Marked Tree Mayor Dixon Chandler is extremely grateful for the grant saying it would provide the infrastructure needed to support industrial growth in this area of Arkansas.
