MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Family members of a 28-year-old woman say she is barely clinging to life after a brutal beating.

Meanwhile, Laura Faison's boyfriend Robert "Chico" Christian stands accused of choking her in front of her three children. Christian faces first degree assault charges for beating up another man in Faison's home, Ben Durfey. Christian made his first court appearance today.

"The only thing I know is she was trying to move her kids into a side bedroom to keep them from hurting them," said Susan Faison, Laura's mother.

Faison says there were five children in the home at the time and three of them were her grandchildren.

She says the hardest part is knowing the children allegedly watched the fight.  She says she has a lot of question.

"If the EMS could not get into the house until police arrived how long did they wait?" Faison asked. "I'm going to file for those 911 records to find out who showed up. My daughter is only hanging on now so I can find out. If she had already died I would've taken the kids to Michigan already. She's hanging on so I can find out what happened."

According to East Prairie Police the neighborhood is just outside city jurisdiction and they have to be called in to help by the county. Eventually, both departments did respond. Sheriff Keith Moore says both departments responded appropriately.

Now Faison is focusing on helping her grandchildren heal. She tells Heartland News if Laura passes away, she planned to be an organ donor.

"She did not deserve this," said Faison. "She was a happy girl, and a good mother."

Right now Christian only faces one charge of assault. He is in the Mississippi County jail.

He could face more charges depending on what happens to Laura Faison. Christian is due back in court on December 15.
