Nixon plans state tour to discuss electricity

JEFFERSON CITY, MO (AP) - Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon is planning to discuss his plans for developing the state's electrical power system.

Nixon planned a news conference Friday at the Governor's Mansion in Jefferson City. Later, the governor was to speak in St. Louis and Springfield. The governor was to appear with utility officials and labor unions. The governor's office has not elaborated on the announcement.

Missouri lawmakers in 2009 debated legislation designed to help build a second nuclear power plant. The proposal bogged down after facing opposition in the state Senate.
