LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The historic Delta Queen riverboat is up for sale, and although it's now a floating hotel docked in Tennessee, some are hoping it gets back to its roots by carrying tourists along the nation's large rivers.
The 84-year-old Delta Queen has been moored to a bank of the Tennessee River in Chattanooga for several years, offering overnight accommodations - but not cruising the river. Its owner, Seattle-based cruise operator Ambassadors International, decided to solicit bids after receiving several inquiries.
A company spokeswoman says Friday was the deadline. One of the bidders is Save the Delta Queen 2010 coalition, which wants to put the boat back in operation carrying passengers on the Mississippi River and its tributaries, including the Ohio, Missouri and Arkansas rivers.
