Supreme Court Refuses Stay for Noel Execution

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Governor Huckabee has turned down a request for clemency by Riley Dobi Noel, who is to be executed tonight.

Huckabee spokesman Jim Harris says the governor decided to deny the request this afternoon after reviewing the triple-murder case he was condemned for. Harris says the governor is only upholding the law of the state in his role in the execution.

Earlier today, an anti-death penalty protester complained that executions are political.

Harris says Huckabee will not comment upon any issues he considered.

Noel was sentenced to die for the execution-style killings of three children in Little Rock in 1995.

The US Supreme Court refused to issue a stay of execution this afternoon. The state Supreme Court rejected a request to block the execution last night.
