Thanksgiving brings heavy rain, winter weather

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The first taste of winter will arrive Thursday evening in Region 8.  The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of Region 8 from 9:00 PM Thursday unto 3:00 am Friday morning. Heavy rains are also expected in front of the colder weather.  One to two inches is possible in Region 8 during the day Thanksgiving.

An Arctic cold front will pass through Thursday afternoon leaving much colder air in place.  Some precipitation should move through after dark and overnight Thursday into Friday.  About a three hour window of rain changing to sleet and snow is expected.  Due to the warm ground, little, if any accumulations are expected.  Some bridges, overpasses, and less traveled roads are most prone to becoming slick.

A Winter Weather Advisory means periods of snow, sleet, or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties.  Be sure to use caution when traveling. The advisory is for Clay, Craighead, Crittenden, Cross, Dunklin, Greene, Lawrence, Mississippi, Pemiscot, Poinsett, Randolph, and St. Francis Counties.

The Region 8 Storm Team is tracking the latest weather conditions and will have the latest on KAIT, www.kait8.com, or www.region8togo.com on your cell phone.
