Carpenter Takes Helm of Blytheville PD

July 11, 2003 - Posted at: 4:55 p.m. CDT

BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. -- A Mississippi County town that has faced its share of crime now has a new man in charge of cleaning it up.

Royce Carpenter began his duties as the new Blytheville Chief of Police on July 1. He was one of 21 people considered for the position.

Previously, Carpenter was in charge of the 13th Judicial District Drug Task Force in Camden. Carpenter has 25 years of law enforcement experience behind him, beginning with the Camden Police Department in 1977. He eventually rose to the rank of Chief in Camden.

Carpenter says that while a police chief and his department are supposed to keep a city safe, they can't do it by themselves. He says a community-wide effort is needed for community-wide safety.
