ASU plans news conference to discuss future of program

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Rumors are swirling on the Arkansas State University campus about the future of its head football coach Steve Roberts.  A news conference is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Monday to discuss the future of the football program.

Roberts and Athletic Director Dr. Dean Lee met Monday morning for a scheduled end of season review.  Roberts was also absent from a weekly Sunbelt Conference coaches' conference call.

According to sources close to the school, no decision has been made on whether Head Football Coach Steve Roberts will return for a tenth season as the Red Wolves head coach.

The Red Wolves finished the season Saturday with a heartbreaking 31-24 loss to Florida International, ending the season at 4-8.  Roberts just finished his ninth season as the head coach at ASU.  He finished two seasons with six wins--the most in one season during his tenure.

Roberts came to ASU from Northwestern State and was previously the head coach at Division II South Arkansas in Magnolia.
