Blood Supply Low, Donors Needed

JONESBORO, Ark. -- Officials with the American Red Cross are asking people to donate blood.

Jonesboro area hospitals are currently in desperate need of blood, so the Red Cross opened it's doors on a Saturday.

The special event brought in 37 donors on Saturday, while this is a good start, more blood is needed. Each day 450 units are required for Jonesboro area hospitals' patient needs.

There are many people who are in need of blood due to impending surgery or emergency treatment's.

Kathy Barber, a collection specialist with the American Red Cross said, "Please. It maybe you, or a family member, or even just helping out a total stranger, and they are really thankful for it."

Officials at the Red Cross say that one unit of blood can help save up to three people.
