Southeast Missouri (0-9) plays its fourth game in seven days when it crosses the Mississippi River to face regional-rival Southern Illinois University (4-4) Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m., CT, at SIU Arena.
Southeast suffered its ninth-straight loss of the season when it fell, 85-58, at Big 12 Conference foe Iowa State Monday. The Redhawks are winless through their first nine games of a season for the first time since moving to NCAA Division I in 1991-92.
The Redhawks dressed only nine players in their recent loss to Iowa State (Dec. 6). Injuries have affected Southeast's depth early on this year, but F Rae-Vonn Banks is one reserve making the most of his opportunities. Banks scored a career-high nine points on 4-of-5 field goals and 1-of-2 free throws against the Cyclones. He also had two rebounds, one block and a steal in 22 minutes.
Southeast is on the road for five of six games to close out the month of December. After visiting Southern Illinois (Dec. 8), the Redhawks return home to host Hannibal-LaGrange (Dec. 11). Southeast then travels to Jacksonville State (Dec. 19), Tennessee Tech (Dec. 21) and SMU (Dec. 29). The Redhawks began their tough road stretch at Iowa State on Dec. 6.
The Redhawks head to Southern Illinois on the backend of a home-and-home series which was renewed in 2009-10.
Southeast and SIU meet for the 113th time Wednesday. The Salukis lead the all-time series, 68-44.
