COPY-AR man accused of LA timber theft

ARCADIA, LA (AP) - Louisiana Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain says an Arkansas man has been arrested on a felony timber theft charge.

Strain said 67-year-old Harry Massey of Norphlet, AR, was booked recently on one count of failure to remit payment for timber.

He said an absentee landowner from Los Angeles, CA, hired Massey to cut 40 acres of timberland in Bienville Parish in May through June 2009. He said Massey cut the 40 acres and sold it through a Camden, AR wood dealer but allegedly did not pay the Los Angeles landowner for the timber.

Strain said the timber was valued at $29,000.
