LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A couple from Searcy with three young children has been named the 2010 Arkansas Farm Family of the year.
A news release from the Arkansas Farm Bureau said the selection of Michael and Sarah Oxner was announced Friday at a luncheon honoring county and district farm families of the year. The Oxners own the 6,080-acre Red River Farms near Bald Knob, with 2,700 acres in rice, 2,100 acres in soybeans, 300 acres of corn and 280 acres of cotton, plus a 700-acre impoundment for wildlife.
The couple's three children are 5-year-old Mary Frances, 3-year-old Laura Grace and 2-year-old Paten. Michael Oxner said he began farming at the age of 10 when, with the help of his grandfather, he planted two acres of soybeans.
