Arkansas Chances for Boeing Uncertain

July 18, 2003 - Posted at: 2:49 p.m. CDT

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- A consultant for the firm helping the Boeing Company find a site to produce a new jet won't say what Arkansas' chances are of landing the plant.

Mark Sweeney says Arkansas has the ear of economic development professionals. He attributes the attention to the state's high-profile pursuit of a Toyota plant that went to San Antonio.

Arkansas is among many states that submitted proposals to Boeing, which is looking for a place to build a plant that will assemble its planned 7E7 passenger jetliner.

Sweeney spoke to a group of lieutenant governors gathered in Little Rock. The group wraps up its meetings Friday.
